The mission of the SOM Foundation is to identify and nurture emerging talent by sponsoring prestigious research awards and traveling study grants to students of architecture, design, and urban design. The SOM Prize is a $50,000 research and travel grant that enables one outstanding student to do in-depth research, collaborate with other designers, and pursue independent study outside the realm of established patterns.

This year Simón De Agüero was honored to be one of 105 Graduates that applied for the SOM Prize.  With the support of the SOM Foundation, Simón intended to travel, research, and analyze the tectonic, spatial, and structural methods of architecture that uses Geodesic Typologies and/or Membrane Construction Methods.  With that knowledge and experience, Simón was going to collaborate with diverse professionals to design transitional and temporary spaces for communities in need and events like the 2014 World Cup, in Brazil.

Simón was not selected as the prize winner but he gained a higher understanding of his career interests and goals.
