Taliesin West Easter Shade

Every year Taliesin West has an Easter event for Frank Lloyd Wright Community. In 2007 and 2008 a unique shade-structure was installed for the celebration. Using a lightweight flexible fabric, students and faculty worked for 2 days erecting a series of shade-sails one of them measuring to 200ft long by 40ft wide. The structure temporarily shaded roughly 200 seats.
Great caution should be made when working with such large sails. The wind was high during these months and the type of fabric and connections used, proved to be insufficient to withstand all the heavy winds. This concept was discontinued and required some further planning to be reapplied to future Easter Events.
